We have located a very tiny quantity of these very popular discontinued items.
Available quantities are as of 5pm 10/22/18:

MC005 Dual Magnetic Easel for Reading Recovery (4 available)
These are available first-come, first-served, so order online now.
They may be gone before your district can get a purchase order to us.
Ordering online is the best way to put your name on these rare items.
We have plenty of most of our many kinds of magnetic letters and all the other items you need, so please shop here for unique items and extraordinary deals.
After 25 years serving Reading Recovery and early literacy teachers,
and 20+ years before that in high-tech industry,
it’s time for us to retire.
Resources for Reading will close in the next few months. We are discontinuing all products, including the
unique sole-source items which have been available only from Resources for Reading and
can not be found anywhere else. Some items are already sold out, and the rest are going fast.
We encourage you to order online rather than with a purchase order, because the delay in getting a purchase order to us may mean you miss out.
School Purchase Orders Welcome!
We are still accepting school district purchase orders for all in-stock items.
Submit your order now before we run out. All items are sold first-come, first-served.
Political and Economic Forces
Many of our exclusive and most popular items (book bags, magnetic letters) were made for us in a family-run company in China (owned by friends of ours), and the highly politicized import tariffs have put that company out of business. As a result, many of our unique products have become unaffordable to teachers. No US company was willing to make these custom design items for us at a price that would fit school budgets, so now they are gone forever.
Our paper products (journals, sentence strips) were made for us by a paper converter who now finds it impossible to find the high quality white paper we use that prevents markers from bleeding through. The reason is profound: most paper mills in the US have changed over to making brown kraft paper, instead of white paper, because of the demand for — wait for it —
shipping cartons for Amazon.
You probably have noticed that over the past 8 years many items have become unavailable due to CPSIA (“Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act”) requirements for expensive laboratory lead testing for school items made from materials which do not and never have contained lead. Expect to see more educational products disappearing from the market.
All in all, this seems to be the right time for us to move on and enjoy what is euphemistically called “Our Golden Years”.
Thank you so much for your support and your business over the past 25 years! It's been our privilege to meet with you at conferences, to help over phone or email, to develop new products to meet your specialized needs, and to do what we can to supply your classroom with the unique materials that YOU KNOW work well to help children learn to read.
You’ve heard us say it many times: If you can't read, nothing else really matters. THIS IS WHY you teach reading and early literacy. THIS IS WHY we provide the materials you need to do what you do.
Many thanks for your support, and for everything you do to help educate children. Keep up the good work!
Our children are our future; they just don’t know it yet.

Local Opportunities for Outrageous Deals!
Local teachers in the San Francisco Bay Area: we will be holding “Open Houses” by appointment so you can come into our warehouse and pick up some very special savings on our remaining items. Please email us at to schedule an appointment. We can’t just let everyone in all at once because it would be too dangerous in the warehouse! We also have some items that we would like to donate to our local school districts; please tell your Reading Coordinator or District Office Buyer to contact us for bulk specials and donations of certain classroom items including easels.
